I am looking for a way to earn extra cash outside of my regular job. I work 9-5 at a run of the mill shithouse, and I would like to earn a little money on the side. Any advice is greatly appreciated.

Make a survey of your talents (besides what you do on the day job), and try to bank on them by giving private lessons.

Not only will you hone these talents by teaching (a well known fact, it forces you to go the extra mile and stay sharp), but also it will be effortless. It's easy to spend time on something you are passionate about (or at least are talented at).

However, this will only make you pocket change, at least at the beginning. Who knows, by spending more time on this and building up a clientele, you might wind up ditching the day job and become self-employed!

Some people close to me did just that. A good friend became a fashion and dating coach for men in Paris, France. He started on week-ends, and after about 3 years of hard work, his side business became so successful that keeping the day job (he was a marketer for a big company) would have been counter-productive financially! He finally took the plunge in 2007, quit his marketing day job and became his own boss.
